The legacy of the Lansdowne Club began in 1958 and now stands as Lexington's oldest membership club. The concept began with the developers of the Lansdowne subdivision, C. B. McEachin and J. W. Davis, Jr. Their original vision was to draw potential homeowners to the subdivision by promoting the benefits provided by the club.
In 1999, the club was purchased by Bill Varney and remained under his ownership for the next six years. At the end of this time, the buildings were in great need of repair and it looked as if the club would have to close. Through the devotion of its members, the club was able to operate while searching for owners who would love the club as much as they did.
In 2005, Lexington natives Ron and Troy Turner decided to purchase the club for renovation. They were driven by their desire to save the historical club and make a significant contribution to the community it had served for forty-seven years.
During the renovation process, it became obvious that the original buildings would need to be completely leveled in order to restore the splendor of the club. The new buildings were completed in 2006 and the club reopened in May as The Signature Club of Lansdowne.
The Signature Club is now a facility whose focus and intent is building relationships throughout the community while providing year round family fun. Just a few of the amenities the members enjoy are: a magnificent grand ballroom for special occasions (rental available to members and the general public); a state-of-the-art pool; water slides; tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; and a complete workout center with cutting edge technology, steam rooms & saunas. A visit to the club will reveal many other advantages to club membership.
Many members and guests have made special memories over the years and hold this landmark in the highest regard. Throughout its history, it has fulfilled many roles such as class reunions, high school and college dances, wedding receptions, political functions, and various fund raisers. The club was also host to the UK Bash for many years. In addition, it carries on the honor of being the home of award winning Lansdowne Gators Swim and Dive Team.
The Signature Club of Lansdowne is rich in history and looks to the future with new facilities that can be enjoyed by all ages.
